I visited Iran for a few days
Salam!
I was in Iran up until the middle of this week and made a few pics and just wanna tell you guys a little bit about the country.
As it isn't very wise to take the camera everwhere, not all pics are mine.
Why I'm there: I am half Iranian.
What I have to say. The country in itself is modern, just the government isn't.
The government is difficult to work with to say the least.
When I arrived I couldn't leave the country due to a missing stamp in my passport. It took me 2 days to get that stamp. Ironically I had to pay 10$ yes, US dollars to get it haha.
But they WANT to make it difficult for people. There was a bike gathering in Teheran and all the bikes were taken in by the police. On a friend asking why they are doing it: "because we want you to know we are watching you"
The food is amazing and the business activity cannot be compared to any other middle eastern country. I'm sure no one here knew that nearly 80% of Dubai's investment's come from Iranian investors....... In numbers, in 2006 alone 400,000 iranians had their money invested there.
Misconceptions I wanna clear up:
1. Fashion. They wear turbans, like the Saudi's and you can't see women's faces.
This is wrong. When you visit Iran, you will not a see a single person dressed this way and women are as open as possible.
Women in iran are much less traditional in the muslim sense: "In Iran, you could point a camera at a woman ... and she would smile. If you did that in Pakistan, the woman would run away and a man might throw a rock at you."
Women don't take it too seriously that their headscarf covers their entire face. Often they have it just laying on the pony, to still legally be wearing it haha.
The government has tried to make the dress of women more arabic, but friends on mine have stated this as pathetic or more commonly as fucking ugly arab shit.
Nose operations are uber popular. I couldnt take a direct pic, but there were 5 women at the airport alone that had done nose surgeries.
Young people in Iran look like this.... Just like screwed up Westerners
Most popular shoes in Iran right now:
Converse All Star, Chuck Taylor
2. They are all religious militants
No one owns a gun, except in isolated places. Neither is it easy to get a hold of them.
3. They hate America
Many have great respect for America. American products are very popular here, mainly because they are illegal. HP computers, especially their printers have almost 50% of the printer market, although legally they cant be bough here.
4. They all live in clay huts
Far from it:
5. They ride camels and horses
Cars are mandatory. Everyone has a car, especially guys need cars. Seriously, you won't get a girl if you don't have a set of wheels.
I went to a party. Without a decent set of car keys and a cool phone, no one will talk to you...... Yes, very shallow.
cars in iran:
Kia "Pride"
VW "Gol"
SL500
Lexus RX300
Peugeot's are popular here.
Toyota Landcruiser
Popular cars in Iran also include the Toyota Camry.
So what's the police ride???
Iranian cars:
Samant
Paykan: built for over 40 years.......
Random:
What happens then? The air in Teheran is considered a serious health threat.
so of course they also got these all over:
6. They don't have internet
They have the 3rd most blogs in the world, 700,000 in 2005.
A quick video on this topic, which is pretty interesting. It's only about 2 minutes.
7. Women are not allowed to work
Copied from Wikipedia:
Large numbers of women entered the civil service and higher education, and in 1996 fourteen women were elected to the Islamic Consultative Assembly. As of late 2006 nearly 70% of Iran's science and engineering students are women. Women make up 27% of the Iranian labor force, and the percentage of all Iranian women who are economically active has more than doubled from 6.1% in 1986 to 13.7% in 2000.
No other islamic country has these numbers.
8. Iranians all love their government
This is extraordinarily absolutely the opposite with every person I have met. As in people that have work and are not obsessively religious.
I have talked to many employees of ours on many occasions on this trip and earlier and non agree with the government and one said to me: The government is not Iranian. They do not do what my family stands for. They are arabic mullahs, that took control.
Sadly though, due to the lack of informatiion spread and controlled media, many people don't know of the many problems in Iran.

9. Getting gas is easy.
Over 40% of the gas in Iran is imported and gas stations are rare......
10. It's only desert.
That's wrong too, although Iran has the hottest place in the planet, which is the Lut desert:
This is not snow, its salt:
What is true:
- You are not allowed to dance in public, people do anyways. Not to mention they listen to Western music.......
- You are not allowed to play the guitar (devil's instrument). Some do anyways.
- Iran has the highest percentage of drug addicts. The 35 some million under 25 often don't have a job, 40% unemployment is not uncommon in many areas and most things cannot be afforded or are not legal.
Actually this is due to the US that these numbers stagnated. Donno if you guys know, but the US military is one of the largest producers of Opium and Heroin in Afghanistan, which is brought to Iran as cheap alternative to alcohol....
This is due to the fact that popy seeds have become popular due to cheap imports of crops from the west, making domestic production obsolete.
