Free Vermont Radio is a revolutionary movement featuring a diverse blend of Vermont’s favorite artists. The radio station was pioneered by fifth generation Vermonter Dennis Steele who is passionate about providing local artists with a venue to showcase their music. Their playlist is rapidly, and continually, increasing and currently boasts close to 1,800 individual songs. The selection of music played on Free Vermont Radio is totally controlled by the listeners. Requests and dedications are taken around the clock and loyal fans can easily watch their favorite Vermont artist rise to the top of the list.
Free Vermont Radio serves up an interesting variety of musical styles and sounds. You’ll hear everything from Contemporary Rock, Classic Rock, Jazz, Blues, and Soul, to Country, Folk, Indie, and Ballads. You might even hear Fiddle music and Psychedelic music played in the same hour. The musical requirements for artists featured on this station is that they must live in Vermont, be from Vermont, tour in Vermont or be connected in some significant way to the State of Vermont. This requirement set in motion by the station’s creator reveals a pride in his home State that is refreshing and inviting.
All of the music played on Free Vermont Radio is chosen by the listeners. There is no D.J. or computer controlling the playlist, which means that the music is literally in the hands of the fans. Fans of a particular music group or artist completely influence the frequency with which a particular song is played. Local artists are encouraged to submit their music to the station so as to receive exposure and to showcase the great talent coming from the Green Mountain State of Vermont. The radio station does not, in any way, sensor the artists’ lyrics. Artists are free to express themselves in any way they choose.
Everyone who listens to Free Vermont Radio is sure to hear something that moves them, whether they are from Vermont or not. Recent artists that have made the Top 20 list of most popular requests are The Conniption Fits, Myra Flynn, Electric Sorcery, Colin McCaffrey, and Pete Sutherland with the Clayfoot Strutters, to name a few. Listen often to catch a great local live show as well. Tonight, for example, we listened to a local band play tribute songs to Michael Jackson at a Vermont lounge.
